Weed Harvesting

Every year Cazenovia Lake Association’s Harvesting Program removes an average 250 loads of weeds (biomass) . Each load weighs 3 wet tons. So we remove 750 wet tons of biomass per year. Each wet ton of biomass (WEEDS) contains on average 5 pounds of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium). So every year the harvester removes almost 2 tons of nutrients from the lake. These nutrients are hauled to a farmer’s field where the nutrients help to grow crops on fields instead of more weeds in the lake.
